City officials from Coral Springs and Parkland joined developers and tenants for an onsite groundbreaking ceremony, February 5, 2004.
South Florida master developer, Global Group Investment Inc., marked the start of construction with a Groundbreaking Ceremony for the fifth of seven developments in the state. The Shoppes at Heron Lakes, a prestigious $25 million retail center at Coral Springs.
Reflecting the area’s need for a retail development of this kind, the center is already 80% pre-leased prior to groundbreaking. City officials from Parkland and Coral Springs joined over 100 guests, including investors, directors, and tenants, for the celebration. Coral Springs Mayor John Sommerer, speaking at the presentation, said the City welcomed the upscale retail development.
“The design of the center and the type of businesses leasing space fits well with the look and lifestyle of the city,” added Sommerer.
Master of ceremonies was Harry Rosen, former mayor of the City of Miramar. Speakers included Parkland City Commissioner Michael Udine, Michael Glusman of Realty Investors, Inc., Tony Burke, CEO of The Tower Group, and Paul Cawley of Coral Springs Economic Development Foundation.
Coral Springs commissioner Debby Beck, who was unable to attend, sent her best wishes for the success of the development. Commissioner Udine said the center’s location, linking the two cities, “would provide a great facility for residents of both Parkland and Coral Springs.”
Completion of the 200,000 sq. ft. complex is expected by Summer 2004. “This is a great day for everyone involved in the project to now see it underway,” said David Ortiz, president of Global Group Investment, Inc. Construction is being carried out by Florida general contractor, The Tower Group.
Located at the SEQ of Coral Ridge Drive and Sawgrass Expressway, the 23.5-acre development is fronted by major high-street names such as CVS Pharmacy, Atlantic States Bank, Buffalo’s Southwest Café, and McDonald’s Restaurant. Construction is underway on these five out-parcels, which occupy one-third of the total site. The last prime outparcel is reserved for a high-quality restaurant. Additionally, only one anchor space is available.
Accelerating the strong economic growth of Coral Springs as one of South Florida’s most vibrant business regions, The Shoppes at Heron Lakes is attracting businesses that contribute to quality of life, fitness, and health.
“This is not your typical shopping center anchored by a grocery store. We wanted a nice mix that would benefit the local community,” said Glusman, exclusive agent for the center. “One third of the center is already taken by companies that are health, fitness, and nutrition related.”
Residents will welcome the conveniently located new fitness facility, About Family Fitness, with 30,000 sq. ft. of unique and latest fitness aspects, including a fitness center for children up to age 12. Tunes SuperSave Nutrition Center has 15,000 sq. ft. space packed with quality health foods and products. Renaissance Wellness Spa will offer luxury pampering in a relaxing setting.
Business and community leaders welcome the development as an attractive proposition both for local communities…
